Eat Around The World

By: Jourdan Batson

Living in a city like Tulsa, there doesn’t seem to be many options for different types of food you may crave. There are a lot more than we think, and I tried some of the recommended authentic types of food you can find here!

El Arepazo:

I had to DoorDash this since I was at work, and on DoorDash, they do not tell you the sizes of the food. My friend, Morgan, had eaten an empanada before and said they were smaller sized at the place she had them previously. So with this information, we ordered way too much food after finding out the rations were very large. Luckily Morgan’s boyfriend was with us to help eat the food, but if you choose to eat here keep in mind that the food is very filling and the portions are very big.

Empanada: 6.5/10

This was good but not the greatest. It was very stuffed and tasted good, but it could’ve been better with a different filling. We had beef but I think it would’ve tasted better with chicken.

Arepa: 8.5/10

This was so so delicious. The breading was lightly cooked to where the breading was slightly crunchy. I wouldn’t order the other things we got again but I would order this.

Tandoori Guys:

I love Indian food and it is easily in my top 3 types of favorite food. The flavors are never disappointing, but there are not a lot of places where you can find this. I have tried most of the places in Tulsa. India Palace Restaurant and Tandoori Guys are my top 2, but Tandoori Guys is cheaper than DoorDash which is what I had to do. Cumin Flavor of India is overall the cheapest, but in my opinion, it wasn’t as good and it hurt my stomach very bad.

Chicken Tikka Masala: 9/10

So so good. The sauce is delicious and the rice is amazing. I have no more words for this, just that you need to try it.

Naan: 8/10

I personally believe that the Naan at India Palace is better, but this one is still tasty. Very good and very dippable. Desi Wok gives you naan with your food though if you don’t want to pay extra.

Biryani: 7/10

I again had a coworker share food with me because it was too much but this was also good. The rice is always really good, but I just prefer the chicken tikka masala and that flavor.

Seoul Bistro: Korean food is potentially my number one favorite food, but I had never been here. Seoul Bistro was recommended to me by somebody who spoke very highly of the food and the people that worked there, so I had very high hopes.

Bulgogi Stew: 8/10

This was all I ordered from the Seoul Bistro and I was definitely not disappointed. Since I only tried this one thing I can’t speak for the other things on the menu, but this is definitely a good option if you are intrigued to try.

Brownies:

Nothing is more Tulsan than Brownies. I don’t really like any types of burgers so I got pie, but I will give you my fathers rating on the burger.

Burger: 8/10

My dad says this is very good and that he really likes the environment. That is pretty much all he said.

Pie: 9/10

This is a very delicious pie. It’s kind of out of the way and the DoorDash fee is quite high, but if those factors didn’t exist I would eat this pie more often.

Next time you go out to eat, try something new for a change! Take advantage of all the authentic foods in your area, and branch out!
